We have this beautiful ships wheel above our mantlepiece which was salvaged from the wreck of the Kermandie by my old man. She was a trading ship around the coast and was stranded on the rocky beach East of Burnie. I believe she 'broke her back' and was beyond salvage so she was stripped, the masts were blown out with gelignite, and set on fire so as not to become a shipping hazard. Nice looking schooner too - shame. The Kermandie Hotel, down past Hobart, has some nice pictures of her on display.
